Paper Art
Sincerely Teia™ Paper Art: When the worlds of paper crafting, scrapbooking, card making, and illustrating collide.
Allow me to introduce to you my new Paper Art Collection: Girl Raised In The South (GRITS)
When I was a little girl, I didn’t like grits…not even a little bit. As I matured, I acquired a taste for them. Today I enjoy eating creamed grits, especially with fried fish or grilled shrimp. It’s truly an iconic southern delicacy.
Well much like me I when I was a little girl and didn’t like grits, many black girls don’t like their features, may it be hair, lips, skin complexion, shape, and / or size. However as they mature, they embrace the true essence of their beauty and features.
The discovery of black beauty has not always been an easy journey; especially when mainstream media has clearly made their preference known. Black women and girls have often found themselves trying to fit into someone else’s beauty standards for far too long.
As an artist, I’m excited to create a body of work that adds diversity and challenges the perceived norm. GRITS is a feminine collection filled with grit and grace. It is joyous, magical, intentional, dimensional, influential, loving, pure, wholesome, empathetic, gracious, grateful, serene, elegant, significant, powerful, prideful, and unapologetically beautiful.
Representation matters…we matter. Ladies I want you to know that I see you. I celebrate you. I create because of you. I love you. I am you.
Please join me by stepping into my realm of Paper Art; mixed media at its finest…GRITS! Handmade with all my heart.
Sincerely,
Teia
